As a Finn, I find myself repeating a certain little fact on the internet this time of the year, as I see people getting more or less genuinely bummed about Valentine’s Day.
In Finland, Valentine’s Day is known as Friends Day (ystävänpäivä). A day of celebrating mostly platonic love as opposed to romantic love.
It is important to remember that there are many kinds of relationships, which are not less important than the romantic ones. You won’t “end up dying alone” just because you don’t have a significant other, and you are not somehow lesser for the lack of a significant other either.
So, Friends day. Day of the buddies!
Maybe this year it is time to try and celebrate platonic or familial love instead?
Time to celebrate the people who are likely there for you the most! Invite some friends over, have a movie night, a google hangout, a skype chat, send cards or little gifts to your friends, watch Friends, anything! Have fun!
Did I ever tell you about the time I saw The Call of The Wild on stage? It was all acted out by one man and when he played the role of the dog, he got on all fours and removed his shirt. He was a very hairy man.
